Cub Scouting with Pack 28

Our Pack consists of boys and their families from northern Cecil County and southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. We are a chartered organization of the American Legion Post 194 of Rising Sun, Maryland.

Our pack is part of the Octoraro District of the Chester County Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Cub Scouting is a year-round program designed for boys entering Kindergarten through 5th grade.  We hold weekly den meetings (bi-weekly for Lions), from September through June and monthly trips and activities through the summer months.

The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development, citizenship training and physical fitness.

Boys begin as Lion Cubs in Kindergarten, then the progress through Cub Scouts as Tigers in the first grade, Wolves in the second grade, Bears in the third grade, WEBLOS in fourth grade and Arrow of Light (AOL) in the fifth grade.

Scouts are grouped into dens by grade and meet once per week for the first three weeks of the month. The last week of the month all the dens come together at the monthly pack meeting to be presented with their awards.

At pack and den meetings, boys participate in games, educational activities and group recognition. The Pack participates in frequent field trips to various places of interest, in addition to camps and other scout gatherings.

Cub Master Message

A Bird Tale

'Once upon a time a farmer was out near the edge of his field and found an egg laying by itself. He took it back to the barn and put it in the nest of one of his ducks. When the eggs hatched, the farmer saw that the foundling was not exactly a duck. It was, instead, a strange looking bird not equipped with the webbed feet of it's adopted family; and could just manage to walk - let alone swim with the others.

One afternoon, months later, while in the barnyard, the foundling heard an ear-piercing screech coming from above; looked up and saw an eagle soaring overhead. Returning the screech, he started running and suddenly became airborne, meeting the eagle in the sky. They soared over the barnyard for a few minutes, then turned and headed out of sight.'

Just like that little eagle who suddenly found he was born to soar, you as parents and leaders can help make it happen for these Cub Scouts. He may not know where he fits in society yet, but with your guidance, love, dedication, knowledge, and encouragement, you can make it happen for that boy. And then one day, you too may look up and see the boy as an 'Eagle Scout' and be pleased to know that you played a part in 'Making Him Soar'.
